The consumption of tobacco in Africa: research of the factors in Ivory Coast

Tobacco consumption is dangerous. The overall effect of tobacco on health, in Africa and around the world, include lung cancer, cardiovascular disease, stroke, respiratory disease and other smoking-related diseases. Our study sought explanatory factors of consumption by young people aged 15 to 24 in order to provide solutions. The results show that at the bivariate level, tobacco consumption is associated with place of residence, region of residence, ethnicity, religion, and the standard of living of the household of the young people. At the explanatory level, the most determining factor is age. The main limitation of our study is the lack of qualitative and biographical data.
